In the last five years, Scotland has created six innovation centres directly aligned to life sciences. Along with a host of specialised centres of excellence, this innovation infrastructure is designed to support business performance through the rapid and efficient translation of solutions to industrial and scientific challenges, creating even greater value for companies.
Precision Medicine
Based at the heart of healthcare at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow, the Precision Medicine Scotland-Innovation Centre provides industry with access to world-leading clinical expertise, health data, healthcare informatics, bioinformatics & analytics expertise, enabling the development of new products and services.
Digital Health
The Digital Health & Care Institute (DHI) is a purpose-built demonstration environment which allows innovators to quickly demonstrate service model and technical and digital innovation capabilities to support service redesign. The DHI aims to support transformational collaboration between universities and businesses to enable ‘clinical’ trials in health and care environments.
Data and Artificial Intelligence
The Data Lab is Scotland’s Innovation Centre for data and AI, helping organisations maximise value from data and accelerate innovation through collaboration, building skills and growing talent, and strengthening Scotland’s thriving data science community.
iCAIRD is the Industrial Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research in Digital Diagnostics that matches AI solutions & research with health & social care priorities. iCAIRD is specifically promoting distinct eco-systems for AI development in radiology and pathology.
Industrial Biotechnology
Scotland’s world-renowned Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre, IBioIC, connects industry, academia and government to bring biotechnology processes and products to the global market. IBioIC provides companies with the tools needed to accelerate and de-risk this journey including scale-up facilities, talent development and funding provision.
Sensing and Imaging
CENSIS is Scotland’s Innovation Centre created to accelerate business growth using sensing, imaging and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. CENSIS works with private and public organisations of all sizes to de-risk and accelerate innovation and overcome technology barriers to achieve business transformation.
Medicines Manufacturing
The UK’s first Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC) is headquartered in Scotland where industry, academia, healthcare providers and regulators will work collaboratively to evaluate, test and prototype processes using an array of advanced technologies including continuous, digital and autonomous manufacturing.
Aquaculture
The SustainableAquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC ) has been created to transform aquaculture by unlocking sustainable growth through innovation excellence. Connecting businesses and academics, SAIC funds and supports commercially relevant, collaborative research.
