The Chief Scientist Office is looking to recruit new members to its research funding Committees.

Expressions of interest are invited from established researchers based within Scottish Universities or Health Boards (including scientists, medical doctors and allied health professionals) to both the Health Improvement, Protection and Services Research (HIPS) Committee and the Translational Clinical Studies (TCS) Committee.

Each of these committees meets twice per year in Edinburgh.

The TCS Committee is currently particularly interested in receiving expressions of interest from those with a research background in:

  • clinical oncology
  • vascular medicine and stroke
  • mental health
  • medical devices and bioengineering.

The HIPS Committee is currently interested in receiving expressions of interest from medical academics and those with a research background in medical statistics, or health economics.

If you are interested in becoming a Committee member, please email a covering letter to Julie Simpson which sets out your particular expertise in terms of subject areas, discipline and research methods, and any relevant experience gained from other committees. We will keep your details on file for consideration as places become available. Final decisions on membership are taken by CSO, in consultation with the Committee Chair and Vice-Chair.

If you would like to discuss these roles in advance of submitting an expression of interest please contact either:

  • Dr Alan McNair – if relating to the Translational Clinical Studies Committee, 0131 244 8494
  • Dr Tom Barlow – if relating to the Health Improvement, Protection and Services Research Committee, 0131 244 8350.

We would be grateful for submissions of expressions of interest by Friday 1st March 2019. Please forward these to Julie Simpson.
