Opportunity North East (ONE) has launched a new programme to help translate life sciences research and ideas into growth businesses.

The programme of four 90-minute online workshops will help researchers, clinicians and potential entrepreneurs based in north east Scotland to test and refine their concepts and start their commercialisation journeys.

ONE is working with the UK’s largest science incubator BioCity Group to deliver this programme, which starts in September. Participants will include life sciences and medical researchers considering commercialising their research, potential entrepreneurs with a commercial proposition in a life science or digital health subject, and NHS staff.

The four workshops, held over four weeks, will enable participants to quickly assess the viability of a business idea and develop a value proposition. The programme will give them the knowledge and confidence to take the first steps in starting a life sciences company

The final workshop will involve participants pitching their businesses to a panel of industry experts, with two business concepts going on to receive further development support from BioCity. The support will include a meeting with BioCity’s investment team, access to their expert network and time with a BioCity coach.

The programme, fully funded by ONE, will establish a group of people ready to progress onto a future life sciences accelerator programme.

Applications for the programme are being accepted until 4 September 2020. The programme starts on 10 September.
