Aquaculture consortium goes with the flow on environmental monitoring
A transatlantic research partnership is developing a new tool which could help the aquaculture industry more accurately understand its impact on the environment and support its long-term growth.
The consortium – led by Cooke Aquaculture, one of the world’s largest salmon producers, and the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), with funding from the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) – is exploring how measuring sulphides on the seabed could better track the impact of biomass from fish farms at six sites in Scotland and Canada.
